707pp. Quarto [27.5 cm] Ex-Library (Seminary). Full brown pebbled leather with a gilt tooled spine, elaborate gilt stamped designs on the covers, and beveled edges. All edges gilt. Dark blue and gold floral endpapers. Very good minus. The extremities are rubbed, and there are a handful of minor stains on the front cover, along with a small moisture stain on the bottom edge of the text block. Library marks on the front endpaper, the preliminary pages, and one embedded in the text. There is an open tear, measuring 1/2" in diameter, in the inside margin of p. 631/32, obscuring several words. Else the pages are clean and bright, and the text block is very study. Complete, all plates present.
Illustrated. Flake 9769. The final volume of Whitney's monumental history of Utah, the scope and breadth of which has never been replicated. Volume 4 is the more difficult volume to find.
