271pp. Octavo [21.5 cm] Black cloth over boards with red lettering on the spine and front cover, and a red ink stamped lightning bolt design on the front cover. Illustrated endpapers. Publisher's orange top stain. Fore edges deckled. The covers are just a little cocked, and the spine ends are gently bumped. A newspaper article has been mounted to the rear pastedown. The jacket is lightly rubbed, and has a number of shallow open and closed edge tears. Several of the tears have been backed with short pieces of tape. There is a brief notation in red pencil on the front inside flap.
Illustrated with woodcut illustrations by Kurt Wiese, as well as from photographs. Lowell Thomas's true account (drawing from the diary of Fritz Harmon), of this tragic sea story, which took place off the coast of Guam.
