Comments

Review copy from an edition of 1150 copies. Pike's expeditions up the Mississippi and into Colorado were contemporaneous with the Lewis and Clark expedition. His journals were confiscated by the Spanish and were not recovered until the 1900s. Pike wrote this popular and influential account of his journeys from memory. Reprinted in full from the original of 1810, with copious critical commentary, memoir of Pike, new map and other illustrations, and complete index.
