493pp. Octavo [26 cm] 1/2 tan cloth with beige paper over boards. The covers are mildly cocked, the spine ends and corners of the covers are bumped, and there are 4 small stains on the bottom edges of the covers. The bottom edge of the text block is a bit more heavily stained, and there are thin, light stains in the bottom margins of the pages at the end. In a dust jacket, with a bit of staining along the bottom edge (only visible on the reverse).
Inscribed by the author in ink on the half-title. The author writes, "For____- Who can see the rewards of a seven-year quest- All my best. Will Bagley, 8 September 2002." The most important work on the Mountain Meadows Massacre since Juanita Brooks' work in 1950. On September 11, 1857, the Fancher-Baker Party of overland trail immigrants headed to California from Arkansas were ambushed and betrayed by Mormons in Southern Utah, with the assistance of some Paiute Indians, leading to the worst massacre of Americans by Americans in the 19th century. 120 men, women and children were brutally murdered.
