The bottom edges of the text blocks are slightly scuffed. The spine of volume 1 is subtly rolled. There is a former owner's name on the front free endsheet of volume 1. Item #26438

"The accounts in these two volumes appeared first as a series of articles in the highly-regarded French publication, Revue des Deux Mondes, and as a book, Eight Months in America, in 1866. An abridged edition in French was published in 1966 by Albert Krebs, Conservateur at the Bibliotheque Nationale."
