Hardcover. 364pp. Octavo [23 cm] Blue cloth with a gilt stamped title on the spine, and decorative black ink and blind stamped designs on the covers. Title gilt stamped on backstrip. Good. The spine and edges of the covers are darkened. There is a 2 inch long split in the cloth of the backstrip along the rear joint. There are numerous losses and tears in the cloth at the ends of the spine. The largest loss measures 1/2 inch deep by 1/4 inch wide. The spine is subtly stained. The corners of the covers are gently bumped. There are a couple of faint indentations in the top edges of the covers. The edges of the text block are very slightly foxed. The edges of the endsheets are sun faded. There is a Pacific-Union Club library bookplate on front pastedown, and there is a faint embossed stamp on the front free endsheet. The front endsheet is cosmetically cracked along the hinge, and the front free endsheet is rippled. Contemporary inscription in ink on half-title. Newspaper article attached to verso on front free endsheet with major offsetting to facing page. The text block is cracked several times. Occasional very light foxing. Item #35684
