Oskison was a member of the Cherokee Nation, and was a graduate of the first class of Willie Halsell College. Oskison drew upon his childhood and teen years in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma to draw an authentic picture of the West. When not writing his novels, Oskison was an editor for the New York Evening Post and Collier's Weekly.
