Frontispiece illustration in black and white of Captain Bradford Cole. Thirty black and white illustrated plates in the text. The title page is decoratively printed in gilt, red and black. Fair only. The cloth at the spine ends and corners is rubbed, chipped, and frayed. A tear in the cloth at the head of the spine has been neatly glued. The front endsheet does not have the brown coating, as the rear endsheet does, and the front hinge has been reinforced. There is a previous owner's ink stamp on the front pastedown. The rear endsheet is cracked along the hinge. The text block is cracked multiple times, and it has a severe break at p. 15. The pages are browned, and a very small number of pages have light staining. The illustration at p. 121 is partially detached. Wright II: 556.
