New York and London: D. Appleton and Company, 1922. First edition. Hardcover. 283pp. Duodecimo [19.5 cm] Red cloth over boards with black ink stamped titles on the spine and front cover, and an illustrated paper label mounted to the front cover. Very good. The spine is slightly rolled, and the edges of the spine and covers are gently bumped and rubbed. There are several small stains on the rear cover, and there is a contemporary gift inscription on the front pastedown. The text block is cracked at p. 11, however the book is still very sturdy. Clareson, Science Fiction in America, 1870's-1930's, 774. Item #39143
Very scarce. Includes a fight with a giant octopus and captivity by African "devil dancers." Thomas D. Clareson points out that the title deserves notice, because "it represents another juvenile series in which there is much talk about science."
