Three of the volumes are 3/4 maroon leather with red cloth over boards, and volume 4 has dark red cloth on the spine and boards. All 4 volumes have embossed designs and gilt lettering on the spine and boards. Volumes 1 and 3 have red speckled text block edges. Volumes 1 and 2 are in good condition only, and volumes 3 and 4 are in very good condition. The extremities are mildly rubbed and bumped. The endsheets have previous owners' labels, stamps, or names in pen. The spine ends of volumes 1 and 2 have small losses and chips. A large chip in the surface of the backstrip of volume 2, measuring roughly 2" long, has been glued. The exposed boards at the spine ends and corners of volume 2 have been colored in. The text blocks of both these volumes are cracked, one at the beginning, and one at the rear. Item #39878
