SIGNED. 162pp. Small octavo [21 cm] 1/2 beige cloth with sea green paper covered boards and a blue metallic ink stamped title on the spine. Very good. The covers are just a tiny bit warped, and the spine ends are gently bumped. In a very good dust jacket, with rubbing and sporadic chips along the edges, and subtle sunning at the jacket's spine. There is a 1/2" closed tear along the top edge, and there are a couple of short gouged pencil marks on the rear panel. Item #45859
Illustrations by Clifford Brycelea. A first edition of an early work by Terry Tempest Williams. Warmly inscribed by Williams on the front free endsheet. From the dust jacket- "Legend and ritual are the stories by which the Navajo have lived, by which they have understood their place in the universe. Pieces of White Shell illumines these stories and, using them as a point of departure, shows us how we can find our own- our history, our traditions, our sense of how to live well. It is in this way that we may retain our integrity in a world that is ever-changing."
