The Fool of Quality; or, The History of Henry Earl of Moreland (five-volume set)

London: W. Johnston, 1767-1770. Mixed edition. Leather bound. Duodecimo in full finely speckled calf, gilt-ruled, with red morocco spine labels, raised spine bands, all edges speckled red, bound-in pagemarker ribbons. Light chipping to spine tips of some volumes, rubbing and some scuffing to leather, hinges creased and sometimes cracking or cracked through, but holding; discreet contemporary ink name to front pastedown of Vols. I and II, else interiors are unmarked. Lovely set. Very good. Item #48296

Vol. I: 300pp; Vol. II: 298; Vol. III: 296pp. Vol. IV: 306pp. Vol. V: 300pp.

Originally planned to run to four volumes, the novel was completed in five (a note explaining this appears at the end of Vol. IV). The title pages of Vols. I through III all have "in Four Volumes" following the title (although, rather oddly, the title pages of Vols. I and II also read "the Second Edition"). Vols. IV and V make no mention of edition or projected length.
Extra charges apply due to size and weight.

Price: $300.00
