The boards have a general layer of mild soiling, and they are rubbed at the extremities. The final pop-up is a bit torn, and a handful of the black and white illustrations have been colored in with crayon. The first pop-up also has a bit of crayon coloring. 3 "Pop-Up" Pictures. The early Blue Ribbon Press printing of the illustrated pop-up edition of "Popeye with The Hag of the Seven Seas." The cartoon character of Popeye was created by Elzie Crisler Segar, and first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip "Thimble Theater" in 1929.
