London: J. & W. T. Clarke, Law-Booksellers, 1822. Fifth edition. Leather bound. 609pp. Octavo [24 cm] Light brown leather with a red leather gilt stamped spine label. Good. The covers are heavily rubbed and scratched. The edges of text block are lightly foxed. There are numerous dark stains on the spine and covers. The majority of the stains are small, however there is a large one on the spine, that measures 1 inch wide by 2 inches tall. There are small losses from the foot of the spine. The leather at the head of the spine has a large chip, and a loss that measures 1/4 inch deep by 1/2 inch wide. There is also a 1 and 1/2 inch long crack in the leather of the spine. There are two dark stains on the top edge of the text block. The underlying boards are exposed briefly along the edges. The edges of the covers are gently bumped. The endsheets and flyleaves are heavily foxed, and there are several very small stains on the front endsheet. The edges of the endsheets are lightly moisture stained. There is a brief contemporary notation on the title page, and again on the verso of the title page. The text block is cracked multiple times however it is still relatively sturdy. The most severe crack occurs at p. 481. There is occasional light foxing throughout the pages. Item #36597
