From the text- "In the Spring of 1961 the Society [The Poetry Society of America], in cooperation with Steuben, invited a number of distinguished American poets to submit new, hitherto-unpublished poems from which our glass designers and artist associates might derive themes for designs in crystal. There were two specifications only: that the poems not concern crystal or glass and that they be no fewer than eight nor more than forty lines in length."
