Chicago and New York: Munsell & Co., Publishers, 1895. Leather bound. 785; [xxxvii]; 777; [xxxii]pp. Very thick quartos [28 cm] 3/4 leather with brown pebbled cloth over boards. Volume 2 has been completely rebacked with plain sturdy cloth, and volume 1 has also been rebacked, but the original backstrip has been laid over. All edges gilt. Purple and gold floral endpapers. Good. The extremities are rubbed, and the underlying boards are exposed along the edges. The pages are a bit tanned, and there are roughly a dozen pages with very minor markings. The text block of volume 1 is cracked at the beginning. The pages near the end of volume 2 have tide marks in the top inside margins. Complete, and with the majority of the engraved portraits in exceptionally clean and bright condition. Item #39431
