London: Houlston and Stoneman, 1949-1951. Early printings. Leather bound. 338; 40; 354; 24; 354; 24pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] 3/4 black leather with gilt stamped titles on the spines, and decorative borders on the spines and covers. Engraved frontispiece illustrations. Good plus. The covers are rubbed, and the corners of the covers are gently bumped. The underlying boards are exposed along the edges. There are short splits in the front board of volume 2 along the joint at the ends of the spines. The longer split measures 1 inch long. There is also a small loss from the leather at the foot of the spine of this volume. Two of the volumes have a bookseller's small label on the front pastedowns, and one of the volumes has a previous owner's bookplate. The text blocks have sporadic cracks, however the books are still very sturdy. The pages are age-toned. Item #40048
