Signed by many of the cast and crew of the 1968 film based on the book, including stars William Holden and Cliff Robertson, director Andrew V. McLaglen, and real-life protagonist Major General Robert T. Frederick (played by Holden). This copy belonged to a Utah native who acted as an extra in the film and had it signed as a keepsake. Some of the battle scenes (set in a German stronghold in Italy) were filmed on Mount Jordan, near Draper, Utah. Supposedly, the casting of several Brigham Young University students as extras in a party scene created unforeseen problems when they were unable to smoke as called for in the script.
The Devil's Brigade and the film it inspired tell the story of the 1st Special Service Force, a joint U.S. and Canadian commando unit in WWII.
Signatures and inscriptions appear throughout the front matter of the book, with a single inscription on rear flyleaf.
