Geology of the Apollo 14 Landing Site in the Fra Mauro Highlands (U. S. Department of the Interior Geological Survey Professional Paper 880)

Washington DC: Government Printing Office, 1977. Paperback. 103pp. Quarto [29 cm] Gray printed wraps. With 7 plates in the rear envelope. Very good. Item #54999

Prepared on behalf of the National Aeronautics and Space Museum. From the Abstract- "Apollo 14 landed in the Fra Mauro highlands on February 5, 1971... The materials of the area are interpreted to be part of the large deposit of ejecta from the Imbrium basin and appear to be older than the materials of the maria. Because of its relatively old age, the regolith is thicker than on the typical mare, and the ages of the various surfaces within the landing site are reflected in the size-frequency distribution of rock fragments. Since lunar materials generally darken with age, their albedos serve as a general indication of the relative length of time that they have been exposed at the surface. Polarimetric properties and albedo appear to be useful signatures for comparative studies of lunar materials."
