Binger Hermann represented Oregon in the U.S. House of Representatives and served as commissioner of the General Land Office under presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. His public career came to a scandalous end, when he was indicted in the Oregon Land Frauds, although he eventually acquitted of all charges.
