In November of 1969, upon hearing about the students who had taken over Alcatraz, Joseph "Indian Joe" Morris (1921-2009), a Blackfoot Indian from Montana, quickly joined the movement. Morris arranged for necessary goods to be shipped to the island, and was also involved in some of the financial matters. He published a diary of his experience titled "Alcatraz Indian Occupation Diary."
