The covers are worn, and the text block is cracked at the front and rear. There are occasional closed tears to the edges of the pages. The longest tear measures 6". Remington gained his reputation as an illustrator, mostly of western and military subjects, for most of the major magazines of the late 1880s and 1890s. He illustrated magazines such as Harper’s Weekly, Harper’s Monthly, Century, Collier’s, Outing, Boys’ Life, and Cosmopolitan.
