Hardcover. 547pp. Octavo [22.5 cm] 1/4 tan cloth with bluish gray cloth covered boards, gilt stamped titles on the spines, and gilt stamped vignettes on the front cover. Top edges gilt. The text block of volume 1 is cracked at p. 81, and again at p. 161. The endpapers of this volume are also split along the hinges. There is a thin 2 inch moisture mark to the backstrip of volume 1. The preliminary pages have a couple of previous owner's names in pen. Large fold-out map present in volume 1. Very good minus. Item #61381
The illustrator, Carl Eytel, was a German–American artist who lived in Palm Springs, California, and built his reputation for paintings and drawings of desert landscapes.
