With drawings by Jim Woodring and 3D art by Charles Barnard, this book comes with a set of 3D glasses laid in for the viewer to experience the illusory effects of the illustrations.
"True 3d requires two images, one for each eye, taken from a slightly different vantage point. In most people, the brain takes these two very different viewpoints and fuses them into a single 3d image through a process called "stereosis". In order to convert Jim's drawings to 3d, I use his original drawing as the left eye view, and created a modified version for the right; by cutting it into 200-400 layers in Photoshop and minutely shifting each element, left or right, to create the slightly different vantage point. Additional warping techniques were applied to some elements to create volume and roundness. When both the left and right view are printed together, in red and blue ink, and viewed through corresponding red and blue filtered glasses, the illusion of depth is achieved." --Charles Barnard, from the copyright page.
