Knowing Time By Light: Painter Dave Hall & Poet Joel Long at Ken Sanders Rare Books

Ken Sanders Rare Books is pleased to announce an evening with landscape artist Dave Hall and poet Joel Long, collaborators on the new book, Knowing Time By Light on Thursday, September 9^th at 7:00 p.m. at our downtown bookstore (268 South 200 East). Long will read from the poems he contributed to the book and Hall’s paintings will be on display. Copies of Knowing Time By Light ($9.95, paperback) will be available for purchase and signing at the event. This event is free and open to the public.

Joel Long’s first book, Winged Insects, was the winner of the White Pine Press Poetry Prize in 1999. His poetry has appeared in various magazines, including Bellingham Review, Cape Rock, Chattahoochee Review, Crab Orchard Review, Mid-American Review, Poet Lore, Prairie Schooner, Seattle Review, Sonora Review, Sou’wester, Willow Springs, and Wisconsin Review. His poems also have been anthologized in American Poetry: The Next Generation, Essential Love, and Fresh Water. He received the 2009 Mayor’s Artist Award for Literary Arts for his role as the President of the City Art Reading Series. He currently lives in Salt Lake City where he is a teacher at Rowland Hall.

Dave Hall is a landscape artist and former Rowland Hall teacher who recently left teaching to paint. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. His book Moving Water: An Artist’s Reflections on Fly Fishing and Friendship was published in June, 2009. Hall’s tonalist landscapes hang locally at Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake and Meyer Gallery in Park City. He lives with his family in Salt Lake City and on Blaine Spring Creek near Ennis, Montana.
