276pp. Octavo [21 cm] Tan cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles and a silver and black ink stamped vignette on the front cover. Very good. The edges of the covers are gently rubbed and bumped. There is a small loss from the cloth at the foot of the spine. The gilt stamped title on the spine is rubbed. The fore edges of the pages are barely perceptibly moisture stained.

Josiah Edward Spurr was a geologist with the United States Geological Survey, and was in charge of the first expedition sent by that department into the interior of Alaska.
