Hardcover. 512pp. Octavo [23 cm] Light brown cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles, a silver stamped cross on the spine, and a green, white and brown ink stamped bird vignette on the front cover. Top edge gilt. Good. The covers are rubbed and mildly soiled and darkened. The front cover is slightly concave. The spine is rolled. There are multiple small dark stains on the spine. The gilt stamped title on the spine has faded. There is a former owner's ink stamp on the front free endsheet. The text block is cracked at the beginning. There may be a couple of more subtle cracks in the text block as well. There is occasional foxing throughout the pages. Item #27333

With the folding map at p. 504. Henry Seebohm was a noted British botanist, oologist and ornithologist who traveled far and wide for his interests. He gained attention as the author of The History of British Birds with its highly detailed and accurate lithographs of bird eggs.
