Sketches and Tales from the French

Tokyo: The Hokuseido Press, 1935. First edition. Hardcover. 196pp. Duodecimo [18.5 cm] Navy blue cloth covered boards with an orange ink stamped title on the spine. Very good. The spine ends and corners of the covers are gently bumped, and the boards are just a little bowed. There is a bookseller's tiny label on the front free endsheet. The pages are subtly yellowed. With a very good dust jacket. There is a very small open tear in the bottom edge of the rear panel, that measures under 1/2 of a centimeter wide by 1/2 of a centimeter deep. The jacket also has very minor soiling, and a few very tiny light stains. Item #33165

From the dust jacket- "The present volume contains probably the cream of Hearn's miscellaneous translations from the French, and both original and translation are of a highly literary character. No doubt the reader will welcome the fascinating short stories Hearn chose from the French authors he loved."
