Item #35557 Fire and Ice. Wallace Stegner.

Fire and Ice

New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1941. First edition. Hardcover. 214pp. Octavo [20.5 cm] Blue cloth with the title stamped in white ink on the backstrip. Very good minus. The extremities are just a bit rubbed and bumped. Minor dusting to the extremities, and there is a slight lean to the spine. The endsheets have several large stains, and there is a small loss from the top fore-edge of the front free endsheet. In a good only dust jacket. The jacket has been laminated, and there are large areas of bubbling in the lamination. The inside flaps are stained. The edges have several closed tears, backed with tape. The longest closed tear is 1 and 1/4" long. Item #35557

One of the harder Stegner titles to find in this nice condition. Only 2500 were printed, and less than 2000 sold. Stegner's agents wrote on April 14, 1948 (seven years after publication) that "Wally Stegner says, with regret, that he cannot find any immediate use for 515 sets of sheets for Fire and Ice. I am afraid, therefore, that you will have to have them pulped." Colberg A5.
