Timothy Treadwell was the in/famous "bear whisperer" who devoted many year of his life to protecting grizzly bears in the Alaskan wild. He claimed he was protecting the bears from poachers and hunters, who by most counts did not exist. During his time in the wild Treadwell filmed over 100 hours of footage, mostly documenting bears in the wild and his efforts to interact with them and "protect" them. Late in the fall of 2003, Treadwell and his girlfriend were found dead after having been attacked by a 1,000 pound grizzly bear. In 2005, the filmmaker Werner Herzog made a remarkable documentary film about Treadwell called "Grizzly Man" which told the fascinating story of Treadwell's life and efforts, utilizing the best of Treadwell's own video footage to great effect.
