Salt Lake City: Juvenile Instructor, 1889. First edition, presentation copy from Wilford Woodruff. Leather bound. vi, 440 (i.e. 540)p., [1]l., 372 (i.e. 362)pp. Quarto [25 cm] 3/4 black leather with pebbled black cloth over boards, a gilt tooled spine, and a decorative gilt stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Brown floral endpapers. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Lorenzo Snow. Presentation copy from the fourth President of the Church of Jesus Christ, Wilford Woodruff, with the notation in pen on the front flyleaf stating, "Presented by Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, March 1890." There is also a tipped-in presentation slip on the title page which reads, "With the Compliments of Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City," featuring a facsimile of Woodruff's signature. The extremities are mildly rubbed, and the rear board is heavily faded. The top 1/4" of the leather at the head of the backstrip has a number of closed tears. The text block is cracked at the beginning and end. Frontispiece offset on the title page and the tipped-in Wilford Woodruff presentation slip. Else, the illustrated plates are only very subtly offset on the opposing pages. There are several short pen notations on the front flyleaf and title page. As is noted in Flake, pp. 537–540 of first paginated part are incorrectly numbered 437–440. Second part has half title: Biographies (supplemental volume). Pages 353–362 of second paginated part are incorrectly numbered 363–372. With 26 engraved plates, all present. Good. Item #51743

Intended as a companion volume to his History of Salt Lake City, this volume covers the rest of the state and Southern Idaho.
