John Boynton Priestly (1894-1984) published over 150 books. He is known for his aptness for shrewd characterization, and his works often dealt with the danger of mass media, the joy of music and art, and the nature of time. His most popular play, An Inspector Calls, underlined the theme of social responsibility. In recent years, there has been a surge in his popularity.
