A book written and designed by Edward Bateman. This is number 8 in an edition of 24. The covers of this book are 3.5-inch floppy diskettes. Fine paper, letterpress printed, bound within. “This text is not the book. In the covers of this book is the real book– or, rather, many books. The Odyssey. The New Testament. Tao Te Ching. The Canterbury Tales. Huckleberry Finn. A Tale of Two Cities. The Tempest. Pride and Prejudice. Hamlet. They are stored as magnetic fields in a coating of iron oxide, really just rust glued to a disc of plastic. Sometime, about five years from now, the binders that hold the iron oxide to the substrate will begin to break down. In this process, these books will begin to disappear. [...] After a time all of the words will be gone. After a time all of the books will be gone. This text, then will be the book.”.
