A notice from the former landmark hotel that was a staple in downtown Salt Lake City for 71 years. A June 24th, 1983 "Deseret News" editorial referred to the hotel as "a monument to the early boom-and-bust days of mining in Utah, a story of sudden wealth, lavish spending and a lifestyle that has vanished from the American scene."

Utah adopted statewide alcohol restrictions on August 1, 1917, becoming the 24th state to do so.
