At one time, Amelia's Palace, also known as the Gardo House, was heralded as one of the finest homes between Chicago and the West Coast. Construction of the home was begun in 1873 by Brigham Young, who recognized a need for a place where he could receive official callers and entertain the dignitaries who traveled great distances to see him.
