All That is Left of Old Mormon Wall Built in 1853

14 cm x 9 cm. Very light creasing to the top edge. Item #65374

This cobblerock wall was built at Fort Bridger in the 1850s. Fort Bridger was an important location for Mormon pioneers, serving as a supply center for west-bound immigration.

"From diaries of the period, it is concluded that the wall the Mormons built was 100 feet by 100 feet, and five feet wide at the base and 15 feet tall. Both sides of the wall were mortared and the inside was filled with loose rubble material." (Deseret News, September 1, 1990).
