The Crop That's Never Scarce in Utah
Photograph. Measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/8". The printed paper label on the reverse reproduces the poem "Utah's Best Crop" by William Willis. Small loss to left margin of paper label, with no loss to text. Very Good. Item #65634
Likely attributed to Charles W. Carter. Carter (1832-1918), born in London, England, was a photographer who operated in Salt Lake City during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May of 1864, and immigrated with his wife to the United States several weeks later. After arriving in Salt Lake City, he worked for a short while at the Savage and Ottinger studio before venturing forth on his own. He is well known for his photographs of the construction of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple and Tabernacle.
An odd photograph which features a collage of hundreds of children, and plays with the notion that Mormon families are sometimes very large.
Price: $250.00
