Mark Ryden has inscribed this volume to Patrick Eddington, while also providing a charming original illustration of a cat who has caught a mouse. Patrick Eddington (known as ‘Pat the Cat’) was a Utah-based artist, teacher, and cat-lover. He carried on extensive correspondence throughout his life with a staggering number of writers and visual artists.

Ryden's style is morbid Margaret Keane, with the flash of Robert Williams for the postmodern hipster.
