A portrait of the rustic Italian village of Luzzaro featuring illustrations from black-and-white photographs by Paul Strand and text by Italian screenwriter Cesare Zavattini ("The Bicycle Thief"). American photographer and filmmaker Paul Strand (1890-1976), known for his street portraits, strove to express the feeling of a land and its inhabitants in an honest and gracious manner, and his approach greatly influenced American photography.

Considered to be one of the first significant photo-books published in Italy. The image on the front of the dust jacket has become iconic.
