Han-Shan (c. 800) is a highly esteemed Chinese Buddhist poet of T'ang-era China - a period which was considered to be China's "Golden Age." Not much is known about Han-Shan's life. His poems often explore themes of nature, solitude, and the search for spiritual enlightenment. His work continues to be relevant today for its timeless messages and accessibility.

Signed by Gary Snyder on the title page. Gary Snyder (born 1930) is an important literary figure from the Beat Generation. Snyder has been dubbed The Poet Laureate of Deep Ecology. His book, Turtle Island, won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1975.
