A collection of twenty-five short stories and a detective novella, The Sanza Affair. Altmann's Tongue is Utah author Evenson's first work of fiction. It was the source of significant controversy at Mormon-run Brigham Young University, where he was teaching at the time of the book's original publication. Following an anonymous letter which was sent to Mormon Church officials attacking the book, Evenson was told that if he wanted to stay at Brigham Young University he would have to agree not to write another book like Altmann's Tongue. Instead, he chose to leave the university.
