Promotional map of Utah and Nevada produced for Mentholatum Company by Wichita illustrator and artist Robert T. Aitchison. Mentholatum Company Series Number 17. With the following text included: "Nevada: The Battle-born State"; "Utah Territory"; "Utah: The Beehive State (Originally Called Deseret)".
R. T. Aitchison (1887-1964) was born in 1887 in Columbus, Kansas. His career in art commenced after he studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Chicago for a couple of years. Newspapers, in his youth, did not use photographic illustration, which provided him with the opportunity to work for the Chicago Tribune as an illustrator. While he was interviewing President Taft in San Antonio, Texas, he decided to settle there, began cartooning for the San Antonio Express, and started a commercial art studio on the side. In 1920, after marrying, he moved to Wichita, where it was his job to establish a creative department for the McCormick-Armstrong Company, a printing firm that employed Aitchison for the next forty years.
