Hall, measuring 11 by 14 inches (later reproductions with modern copyright symbol near the artist's name). Housed in an earlier illustrated paper portfolio, dating from circa 1949 (the author's inscription is dated 1949). The portfolio is very lightly soiled and creased, and has a moisture ring on the bottom folded inside flap. Portfolio folder very good. Prints fine. Item #71107

Arthur William Hall (1889-1981) was known for his prints and watercolors depicting New Mexican and Western landscapes. He was born in Bowie, Texas, and received his training in art at the Chicago Art Institute, before serving in World War I. After pursuing printmaking and etching in Europe for several years, Hall traveled across the southern and western United States sketching and building upon his subjects and talents. After a time, he settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he opened an art school and studio. The chemise portfolio has been inscribed by Arthur W. Hall on the inside fold: "Sept. 10/1949 / To a grand / gentleman & friend - / from / Arthur W. Hall."
