The author, Anna Brownell Jameson (1794-1860) was an art historian, who was also associated with literary criticism, philosophy, travel writing, and feminism. These volumes are three books from her most famous work, a monumental compendium of Christian Art. This compendium also included (not present here***) "Legends of Madonna" (1852) and "The History of Our Lord" (1864), the last completed after her death in 1860, by her friend Elizabeth Rigby, Lady Eastlake.
