German-born printmaker and painter Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) called Santa Fe, New Mexico home for the last fifty years of his life. He was heavily involved with the artistic community in the area.
Featuring 34 woodcut illustrations of patron saints. The relics serving as inspiration were viewed by Baumann within the borders of Santa Fe, though he notes "many of them have found their way to museums and are no longer available." With a previously unpublished essay entitled "Little Saints of New Mexico," by Mary Austin. In the preface, Baumann mentions that Austin's contribution was "probably her last manuscript, and of necessity I present it without the changes and additions we had contemplated."
