Leather Bound. xi, 485, 374pp. Small quarto [26 cm] Bound as "The Two Records" in full pebble-grained black calf, with raised bands, and a gilt stamped title on the spine. Blind ruled borders and designs on the boards. All edges gilt. Leaf-patterned endpapers. Extremities rubbed. Corners gently bumped. 2 1/2" crack to foot of front board along the joint. Discolored endpapers along the turn ins. Previous owner's ink stamp (Jacob Reese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) on the pastedowns, head of title page, and recto of rear free endpaper. Normal toning the pages. Sporadic minor marginal notes and markings. Darkened patches to half a dozen pages, often from strips of paper having been laid in. The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as Community of Christ, is a denomination within the Latter-Day Saint movement, emphasizing peace, justice, and non-creedal approach to faith.

The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) was officially organized on April 6, 1860, in Amboy, Illinois, under the leadership of Joseph Smith III, the son of the church's founder, Joseph Smith Jr. This organization emerged from the turmoil and schism within the Latter Day Saint movement following the assassination of Joseph Smith Jr. in 1844. Many members rejected the leadership of Brigham Young and sought a different path, leading to the establishment of the RLDS Church as a separate entity. Lamoni was the RLDS church's headquarters from 1880 to 1920. There, Joseph Smith III made Liberty Hall his home, and Liberty Hall became the center of social and religious life for the community. By the late nineteenth century, some RLDS members began returning to Independence, Missouri, where Joseph Smith Jr. and a group of his followers had settled in 1831, before being forced to move.
