Ken Sanders Rare Books is pleased to welcome photographer Nilauro Markus to our gallery for the August Gallery Stroll. Artist reception and opening at 7pm on Friday, August 19th at our downtown Salt Lake City bookstore, 268 South 200 East. The show will run until Saturday, September 10th, so come on by during the month if you can’t make the opening.
Nilauro is a recent Utah transplant whose eye has been captivated by the light and landscapes of Utah. His latest works focus on the strength and beauty of Utah’s many incredible landscapes, ranging from shots of our local Wasatch Mountains to the sandstone and carved canyons of southeastern Utah.
Coming from an international background that included a childhood spent exploring the wonders of India, Nilauro has become a talented artist with a unique eye for landscape and outdoor photography. His artistic interests are diverse, and he is always searching for new perspectives on familiar sights.
Nilauro is passionate about our natural spaces; he feels at home in the wilderness and enjoys the freedom from everyday existence that comes with being out in nature. Outdoors, he feels connected to a larger universe than what is visible from within four walls. His photos seek to encapsulate that experience by using the camera to take in small details of light and texture as well as the openness of wider views. When Nilauro takes a photo of a particular place and time, he hopes to communicate some small part of what is special about that place, in that instant, whether it is water from the season’s first storm flowing down sandstone, or the evening’s last light touching the rocks. With each photo he takes, Nilauro looks for a new way to share his delight in the landscape and to encourage others to enjoy and preserve the places he is privileged to visit in his travels.
