Doug Peacock: In the Shadow of the Sabertooth (or, Hayduke Lives! And he is coming to Salt Lake City!)

Ken Sanders Rare Books is pleased to announce a reading and book signing with Doug Peacock on Monday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm at our downtown bookstore (268 South 200 East, SLC, UT). He will be reading from his new book, "In the Shadow of the Sabertooth: A Renegade Naturalist Considers Global Warming, the First Americans and the Terrible Beasts of the Pleistocene”. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing (Counter Punch/AK Press, paperback, $15.00). This event is free and open to the public.

Doug Peacock has spent the last fifty years wandering the earth’s wildest places, studying grizzly bears, and advocating for the preservation of wilderness. Peacock has received fellowships from both the Guggenheim and Lannan foundations for his work on this book, which explores the shifting weather patterns of the past, as well as our current shifting weather patterns of the present and future. Doug Peacock's latest narrative explores the full circle of climate change in a deeply personal and compelling story.

Peacock’s previous publications include Walking It Off, Grizzly Years, Baja!, as well as numerous articles about wilderness preservation in magazines such as Outside, Men’s Journal, and Audubon. Doug Peacock is also regarded as the real-life basis of George Washington Hayduke in Edward Abbey's landmark environmental novel, The Monkey Wrench Gang. He lives in Livingston, Montana.
